You can get a tasty chocolate cake in any supermarket or bakery, but baking at home is much more fun – not to mention impressive.
If you’re having guests around this week, Delicious has provided a simple chocolate cake recipe which serves 10 chocoholics.
Delicious said: “This is a really easy chocolate cake recipe. Once youāve made the cake itself, you can dress it up any way you fancy ā for example, you could fill it with whipped cream and jam instead of chocolate icing.
“Or, after icing or buttercreaming, why not decorate with colourful sweets or chocolate buttons for a birthday cake?”
This recipe is incredibly easy to follow so it’s a great one to get young kids or grandkids involved in making.

Ingredients
- 225g unsalted butter, softened, plus extra for greasing
- 225g caster sugar
- Four medium free-range eggs
- 175g self-raising flour
- 50g cocoa powder
- One tsp baking powder
- Two to three tbsp milk

Method
- Preheat the oven to 180Ā°C/fan160Ā°C/gas 4. Grease two 20cm sandwich tins with a bit of butter and baseline with baking paper. Grab a whole and add the butter and sugar. Beat them together with an electric hand whisk until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each one. Sift in the flour, baking powder and cocoa. Gently fold into the mixture.
- Add a little milk until you have a dropping consistency, then divide between the tins. Only fill the sandwich tins 3/4 full.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or use the skewer test, where a skewer inserted into the centre will come out clean. Leave to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Let it cool slightly. Beat the butter and icing sugar together in a bowl with an electric hand whisk until the mixture is light and fluffy, then fold in the melted chocolate.
- Evenly spread some icing over one of the cakes. Carefully put the other cake on top. Gently spread the rest of the icing over the cake.
