Many will spend this weekend baking up a storm, but some of us prefer a quick and easy treat.
BBC Good Food’s chocolate chip mug cake is the perfect Friday night treat if you’re having a cosy night in.
Anybody can make it – it’s super easy, taking just 10 minutes to put on the table (including prep and cooking).
BBC Good Food said: “Lower your energy use by baking this chocolate chip cookie pudding in the microwave. It takes just 10 minutes to make – perfect for a speedy dessert for one.”
This recipe makes one cake but you can make as many as you like if you have company.

Ingredients
15g unsalted butter
15g light brown soft sugar
One egg yolk (freeze the white for another recipe)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
25g plain flour
A pinch of baking powder
15g milk chocolate chips
Ice cream, to serve (optional)

Method
- Put the butter and sugar in a microwave-safe cup or ramekin. Microwave on high for 30-50 seconds until melted. Microwave it for longer if you’re using fridge-cold butter.
- Add the egg yolk, stirring it in until glossy and combined. Stir in a pinch of salt and then the vanilla. Add the flour, baking powder and chocolate chips. Microwave on high for one minute until the cake is puffed and golden. Take it out of the microwave carefully and set aside for a few minutes. Serve on its own or with strawberries and ice cream.
