Brits will tuck into over 6,800 nuggets in their lifetime, study finds

Britain is a nation of nugget-devourers ā€“ with those who eat them chomping through a colossal 6,804 in their lifetime, according to research. The survey of 2,000 adults, who enjoy the beauty of a meat- or plant-based nugget, found they tuck into an average of nine per month.

But 19 percent are so enamoured they genuinely donā€™t think they could survive without them. More than a third (34 percent) have ā€œnuggetedā€ while in the car, and 13 percent have enjoyed the savoury treat in bed.

Some of the stranger nugget-eating habits include nibbling the coating off then eating the interior, pouring sauce into the box and shaking it to coat them ā€“ and even dipping them into milkshakes.

It also emerged as many as 16 percent now prefer plant-based nuggets, to ones made with chicken.

Impossible FoodsĀ commissioned the research to mark a nationwide giveaway of its plant-based nuggets, ahead of National Nugget Day on Monday (November 13).

A spokesman said: ā€œWe knew people liked their nuggets ā€“ but clearly, they feel even more passionately than we thought.

ā€œItā€™s great to see that nugget fans are quite adventurous, in addition to being open to plant-based options. Weā€™re pleased that more people are looking to satisfy their nugget cravings in a way thatā€™s better for the planet.ā€

The study also found 19 percent consider nuggets their ultimate comfort food ā€“ although the ways in which they devour them vary.

More than one in five (21 percent) confess to eating their nuggets with a knife and fork, while 26 percent say they should only ever be consumed by hand ā€“ and 37 percent feel ā€œdouble dippingā€ is a big nugget no-no.

When it comes to top ā€œnuggetersā€ around the UK, it was London that took the crown for the nugget capital, by getting through the most each month ā€“ while folks in the East Midlands devour the fewest.

Meanwhile, those in the North East are the biggest fans of combining ketchup with their nugs, whereas the West Midlands are more likely to opt for barbeque sauce.

The research also revealed 13 percent of the nationā€™s nugget fans are so in love with them, that if they found themselves able to pick their last meal on Earth, nuggets would make it on to the plate.

And as far as nugget-eating opportunities are concerned, the average eater has two sessions per month ā€“ and on average, the most people have eaten in one go is 10.

However, some respondents claim to have taken on board as many as 30 in one sitting, according to the OnePoll.com data.

It also emerged that, of those polled yet to try a plant-based nugget, four in ten are open to giving them a try.

The spokesman for Impossible Foods, which is giving away free nuggets while supplies last at participating restaurants from November 13 to 15, added: ā€œFans donā€™t have to give up their beloved nuggets to enjoy a crispy, tender bite.

ā€œWherever and however they eat them, we want to help people to get their fix without compromise ā€“ and hopefully reduce their environmental footprint along the way.ā€
