I confess: I was late to the ALDI game. Mostly it was because there wasn’t one near me for the longest time, but once there was, I discovered the budget supermarket magic that is contained within. And joined its legions of loyal-near-maniacal fans.

And a real ALDI strength, I’ve learned, is their snack game. ALDI kills it on snacking for a few key reasons:
- They have really amazing knockoffs of traditional items you love at a fraction of the price.
- They have access to some spectacular deals on European chocolates and terrific cheeses.
- They carry some unusual items you just can’t get anywhere else! All of which is to say that I lean heavily on ALDI to keep my creative snack pantry stocked.
Here are my favorite ALDI finds for right now:
I defy anyone to close their eyes and differentiate between the name brands of pretty much any cracker and the Savoritz ALDI version. From Triscuits to Wheat Thins, if you have a favorite cracker, ALDI is going to have a version for you that you will love. I have a special weakness for their versions of the mini Ritz sandwiches with either cheese or peanut butter in convenient little snack-size bags—a perfect pairing for a glass of wine or an afternoon snack.

Nuts and Dried Fruits
From Setton Farms Chili Limon Pistachios to Simply Nature Freeze Dried Fuji Apples, if you like fruits and nuts for snacking, ALDI has some treasures to discover! I try to keep their Southern Grove Wasabi Soy Almonds, Honey Roasted Cashews, Dried Philippine Mango slices, and their Simply Nature Raw Cashew, Walnuts, and Macadmia Nuts mix on hand at all times.
Charcuterie and Cheeses
Their European origin means that the ALDI charcuterie and cheese game is very strong. Some of my personal favorites include their Happy Farms Gouda Gourmet Snacking Cheese (for those of you who are tired of string cheese), Appleton Farms Gourmet Deli Selection, which takes care of the hard part of a beautiful charcuterie board, and the one-stop-shopping ease of their Park Street Meat and Cheese and Cracker Party Tray. Two kinds of sausage, two kinds of cheese, two sleeves of crackers, in a convenient open and serve tray, for less than you would pay for a single brick of cheese at other stores. And their Folios Cheese Wraps are thin round sheets of cheese that can serve like a no-carb tortilla and are really fun for rolling up with meats or vegetables for snacks or lunches.
Sure, you can get basic chips anywhere, but ALDI has some really fun and surprising salty snacks to indulge in. I especially love the Clancy’s Honey Wheat Pretzels, the Simply Nature Organic White Cheddar Puffs, Enlightened Bada Bean Bada Boom Crunchy Broad Bean snacks (in a fun variety of flavors), and Clancy’s Dill Pickle Popcorn.
The freezer section at ALDI has something for everyone. Do your kids need an easy and relatively better-for-them treat? Try Diana’s Bananas Banana Babies: half bananas on a stick dipped in either milk or dark chocolate and frozen, which are a great alternative to a drumstick or frozen pop. Want to fancy up dessert without having to bake? The Specially Selected Mini Eclairs are thaw-and-eat magic. And don’t forget the savory options! If you like a tater tot, you’ll love Season’s Choice Crispy Potato Circles; while they are lovely next to a burger or subbing in for hashed browns at breakfast, I love them as the base for little canapes at cocktail hour.
If there is one thing I go crazy for at ALDI it is their chocolates. Super high-quality European chocolates at Hershey’s prices will get me every time. My top picks? Choceur Mini Bars: stacks of little 1.4-ounce bars, which are perfect for serving (and a sane indulgence). Look for Rich Dark, Creamy Milk, and even Hazelnut Crunch versions. Ditto the stack of Knoppers Chocolate Wafer Snacks: all the indulgence in a treat-for-one size. Also keep an eye out for Moser Roth Luxurious European Chocolate Truffles, Schogetten Dark Chocolate bars, and Choceur Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds.
