The Chase, which sees experts including Mark Labbett, Anne Hegerty and Paul Sinha go head-to-head with contestants, is a popular evening show which has been running for several years. Over the years, the Chasers have caught the attention of viewers due to their weight loss transformations, but what diet plans did they follow?

Mark Labbett, also known as The Beast, has lost a phenomenal amount of weight in the last two years, shedding almost 10 stone.

The game show quizzer revealed he did this by cutting our carbohydrates, sugar as well as cutting back on alcohol.

He told ITV’s Loose Women earlier this year that he dropped a few dress sizes by eating a protein-rich diet.

Mark said: “I am gradually dropping Xs off my size. I’ve gone from 5XL to 4XL and it looks like the next time I go shopping I’ll be able to squeeze into XL underpants.

“I’ve lost 10 stone, I was 29 stone when I was a full-time teacher in 2003 and I was in danger of high blood pressure.

“I’ve been around 26 stone up until lockdown, and then a few things happened quite nicely and came together and I started losing weight.”

He went on: “I’m on a high protein diet with the good people at Muscle Food so eating an awful lot of lean meat and as much as I love chips and other carbs, I am having quite a bit less than I used to.”

Anne Hegerty has admitted her struggles with her weight over the years, and lost a huge amount of weight when she entered I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! back in 2015.

Although the Chaser lost a stone during the time she was in the jungle, Anne revealed that she managed to keep the weight off after she left.

She told Jeremy Vine in 2019: “The thing is my health is fine.

“Before I went into the jungle I had to have a load of tests and they all came back saying, ‘Your blood sugar is perfectly normal, if anything lower than perhaps it might need to be.

“‘We’ve spent an hour staring at scans of your heart, you don’t have any clogged-up arteries’.”

Anne added: “I’m not a fit fat person and I would like to be fitter, but I am not unhealthy.”

Celebrities who compete on the show will famously eat a limited diet containing foods such as rice, beans and meat.

The TV favourite has focused on staying healthy when keeping up her weight loss. 

Another Chaser who has caught the attention of viewers in recent years is Paul Sinha.

Known on the show as The Sinnerman, Paul was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes back in 2018.

This sparked Paul’s interests in losing weight, and he managed to lose a stone while taking part in ITV’s documentary, Diabetes: The Fast Fix.

While in the experimental medical trial, Paul lived on a diet of just 800 calories per day for four weeks in order to see if he could lose weight quickly.

Last year, he said: “I’ve lost a stone in weight. If I lose another I have a shout of getting an invite to a gay awards night.”

Losing weight is hard for many but benefits of losing excess weight include reducing the risk of several diseases as well as increased energy levels.

The NHS recommends eating in a calorie deficit of 250-500 calories each day in order to lose weight sustainably.
