Weight loss is often hard for many people with cravings and constant hunger being one reason why slimmers can struggle. Dr Michael Mosley, expert behind The Fast 800 diet plan, has shared the best way to help prevent hunger.
In order to lose weight, a slimmer must be eating in a calorie deficit.
This means the body must be burning more energy than it is consuming.
Due to this, people can feel hungry often due to eating less food than they usually would.
Dr Michael Mosley has shared how slimmers can help prevent constant hunger.
He explained: “It’s really important to have a decent amount of protein, which is 50-70 grams a day.
“You can mainly get protein from meat or from fish, and you can also get it from legumes, but you have to eat rather more.
“This is why following the Fast 800 on a vegetarian diet is more challenging.
“The reason for protein is you need it for your muscle, you need it for all sorts of essential metabolic processes.

“Also because when you consume it, it’s digested slower by your body so you don’t get the same sort of peaks.”
Protein-rich foods help to reduce the hunger hormone in the body as well as boosting several satiety hormones.
This is why foods high in protein are often recommended for those trying to lose weight.
The amount of recommended protein differs between person-to-person as it tends to be based on many factors including body weight.
The expert added: “The best way to prevent hunger when you are intermittent fasting is to use something like a meal replacement shake.”
Although not suitable for everyone, a meal replacement shake is often high in protein, keeping slimmers fuller for longer.
Low-calorie shakes are often a popular choice for those looking to lose weight as research suggests they can help with the process.
Dr Mosley added: “The reason people get hungry is because they’ve eaten something that’s very high in sugar or carbs, so they get a massive rise in blood sugar levels and then they crash and get hungry.
“I find that if you’re eating something which has plenty of fibre in it and plenty of nutrients, I really don’t get that hungry at all.
“If I’m going to have a snack, I would go for a small handful of nuts or something like that, it really takes the edge away.
“It is important to have decent amounts of protein.”
Nuts such as almonds are a great snack because they contain nutrients and healthy fats.
Although those looking to lose weight tend to avoid nuts due to the high amount of calories in them, they can make you feel fuller for longer, reducing the need for other snacking.
Other protein-rich foods include Greek yoghurt, beans, eggs as well as some meats including chicken.
