Meghan Markle diet: Royal eats ‘healthy food in flavourful ways’ – ‘all about balance’

Meghan Markle said in 2016 she tries to maintain a vegan diet during the week, though may splurge on the weekends. Meghan’s flexible ‘vegan-ish’ approach means she is less likely to suffer from any diet deficiencies according to an expert. Bonnie Taub-Dix, a nutritionist and author of ‘Read It Before You Eat It: Taking You From Label to Table’ said: “What I like is that she doesn’t have an “allowed” list and an “avoid” list.

“If she is avoiding animal protein, it’s by preference.”

It was reported in 2018 that one of Meghan’s favourite snacks is apple slices with almond butter and sea salt.

“This is a fantastic snack,” said Amy Gorin, the owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition.

“Apples provide satiating fibre, and almond butter offers filling, healthy fat, protein, and more fibre.

“Salt can accentuate sweetness, so adding a small amount is completely fine.”

In a 2016 interview with Delish, Meghan admitted to using green juice to amp herself up instead of an afternoon coffee.

“Green juice can be a nice way to hydrate and also take in vitamins and minerals from the veggies,” said nutritionist Ginger Hultin who approves of Meghan’s combo of apple, kale, spinach, ginger, and lemon.

Meghan has said she is a fan of kombucha, a lightly effervescent fermented tea.

A California native, Meghan also told Best Health that sashimi, sushi but without the white rice, is her ideal lunch.

Back when she was an actress on Suits, Meghan liked to start her day with hot water with lemon.

The former actress reportedly also loves acai berries, which are high in fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Meghan famously enjoys red wine so much, she named her lifestyle website ‘The Tig’ after her favourite Italian brand, Tignanello.

Meghan may be a foodie, but she’s not above eating ready meals.

She told Today that she preps meals at the beginning of the week by cooking a box of packaged quinoa that she upgrades with sautéed veggies, and then seasons with crushed red pepper and chopped fresh herbs.

“She seems to eat fresh much of the time, but doesn’t feel like a failure for eating out of a package,” Angela Lemond, a nutritionist said.

“She finds ways to eat healthy food in flavourful ways that are quick. That’s exactly how you make it happen!”

Unlike the Queen who reportedly does not eat carbohydrates, Meghan is on the record as a carb lover.

That is a break from the trendy low-carb ketogenic diet, and some experts say that is a good thing.

“Carbs are one of the best sources of energy in our diets,” said Taub-Dix. “It’s all about balance and portion sizes.”

Meghan told Delish that her favourite pasta is zucchini bolognese, which is dairy-free and completely vegetable-based.

“You’d swear there’s tons of butter and oil in it, but it’s just zucchini, water, and a little bouillon,” she said.
