James Martin appears on ITV today to present his weekly cooking show, James Martin’s Saturday Morning. Although his work focuses on food, James has managed to lose an impressive amount of weight in recent years.

James’ weight loss journey began back in 2005 when he participated on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

But the chef opened up about his most recent weight loss last year.

In August 2020, James posted a picture of himself on his social media and fans were quick to notice that he had slimmed down.

One Instagram user wrote: “Wow, looking slim Mr Martin.”

Another said: “Looking good.”

A third person commented: “Well done James. You look fabulous!”

James thanked fans for their support and revealed his weight loss, saying: “Haha thanks all. Lost 14 kilos (2st 3lb) got to get new clothes.”

Over the UK’s first national lockdown, James shed the pounds by walking his dogs, doing regular exercise, and eating a healthier diet.

He often shares pictures of his dogs running around in the Surrey countryside on his Instagram.

He has previously said he eats plenty of fruit and vegetables and fewer fatty foods.

James started eating more healthily, as well as doing more exercise, in 2005.

This was during his two-month stint on Strictly Come Dancing, where the chef lost a whopping five stone.

He reportedly lost a stone in just a week.

Strictly is known known for having an intense schedule with contestants training up to 10 hours a day.

After leaving the competition, James was determined to stay healthy and made changes to his diet and exercise regime.

The chef reportedly cut back on butter and other fatty foods to help him slim down.

In 2018, James revealed that he was motivated to lose weight following criticism online about his appearance.

At the time, he told The Sun: “I looked on social media and every comment was about me being fat.

“So I lost a stone and a half. And no doubt I’ll lose another stone on this tour.”

In an interview with Mail Online around the same period, he added: “I’ve lost a stone-ish.

“I just think it’s a lifestyle thing and also looking at yourself on TV.

“Before you used to watch TV on a small one and now they’re massive.”

James continued: “It’s hard work because I’m a big bloke.

“So I’ve really got to watch what I eat and drink, and make sure I exercise regularly.”
