Tom Kerridge discusses his 12 stone weight loss journey

Tom Kerridge appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss his upcoming ventures, and while he was there, presenter Richard Madeley was curious to know how he lost so much weight. The TV chef explained how the scales tipped 30 stone at one point in his life and how he had to “do something about it” otherwise his “life might not go on much longer”.
Richard said: “Personally, I want to ask you this. I knew you’d lost a lot of weight, a few years ago – eight, nine years ago – it was 12 stone!”
“Yes, I lost a lot,” Tom said. “I was a massive lump – I mean I’m still a big lump.”
The presenter added: “How did you do that? And how long did it take to lose 12 stone?”
“Probably over 18 months,” the chef replied. “But it was a complete lifestyle change, I was approaching 40 years and I thought ‘I’ve got to do something here, I’ve got to make a decision to change, I’ve got to look at what I’m doing.’
“I stopped drinking, I cut down, I just looked at my diet – I cut out carbohydrates.
“I went on a health kick; whether it was swimming, or going to the gym and lifting weights, you try and find something, but you’ve got to make a complete change,” Tom added.
“What was your top weight?” Richard wondered and Tom revealed: “I was over 30 stone.”
“You had to do something about that,” the presenter remarked and Tom agreed: “Yes.
“Don’t get me wrong, I was loving life, I was having the best time.
“But there does come a point where I thought ‘this life might not go on much longer, if I don’t do anything about it.”
Tom said his career contributed to his weight gain.
He previously explained: “As a chef, I was grazing and snacking throughout service.
“Or I’d be eating cheese on toast and packets of crisps because they were quick.
“I was a big one to skip breakfast. I didn’t have any,” he added.
It was when he turned 40, his weight was 30 stone.
Speaking about this life-changing realisation, Tom said: “Say we live to 80, well, I thought ‘I’m halfway there’. And then I thought ‘I’m not going to get there. If I’m like this, I’m not going to make it.’
In a bid to lose weight, Tom followed a dopamine diet – “recipes [that] feature ingredients that trigger the release of the happy hormone in your brain”.
“So it’s a diet that will make you feel good,” he added.
