She told Express.co.uk: “Choose a short term high protein and low carb diet initially to switch from anabolic to catabolic metabolism.

“I’d suggest one to three weeks depending on how much you need to lose,” Lisa added.

By eating these foods, dieters will encourage their metabolism to break down fat more quickly.

Slimmers should cut foods including bread, rice, pasta and high sugar treats.

Instead, they can fill up on protein-rich foods including meat, fish, dairy, nuts and eggs.

Following the plan can help dieters shift pounds in as little as a week and they should follow it for just a few weeks.

After slimming down, Britons can maintain their results by adding more wholegrain foods into their plan.

“Move slowly into introducing whole grain carbs with one meal daily. All other carbs should be vegetables origin,” she said.

Those hoping to beat the bulge should avoid processed foods and reduce how much they snack.

Dieters should also cut back on excess calories by looking at the size of their portions and making sure they don’t overeat.

Lisa told Express.co.uk: “Avoid processed foods, anything made with white flour, snacking and overeating.

“Snacking is not ideal but if a snack is essential I’d suggest a third of a protein bar or a small piece of beef jerky. Similarly some chicken breast would suffice.

“Also, look at your normal size meal and remove a quarter of each ingredient before sitting at the table.”

As well as following a healthy diet plan, Britons should exercise regularly to transform their figure.

Opting for high intensity exercises can burn the most calories and help slimmers get into shape.

The expert added: “The best exercise is anything you enjoy that increases your heart rate.”
