You Can Eat Cookie Dough and Play With Kittens at This Pop-Up Lounge

You guys, I have amazing news: It turns out money CAN buy happiness. For just $22, you can spend 30 minutes stuffing cookie dough into your mouth with one hand and playing with adorable, adoptable kittens with the other.

No, you’re not dreaming—the pop-up Kitten Lounge in Washington D.C. exists and it’s amazing.

Just how does such a perfect idea come together? It’s a team effort, really.

Homeward Trails Animal Rescue brings the cats, and Georgetown-based bakery The Dough Jar provides all the eggless cookie dough your kitten-loving heart could possibly desire.

Crumbs & Whiskers, a cat café with locations in Los Angeles and Washington D.C., is behind the lounge.

The timing of the pop-up (March-June) coincides with Kitten Season, when shelters are overrun with kittens. Kitten care is more expensive and time consuming than adult cat care, so many are turned away or euthanized.

The Kitten Lounge’s organizers aim to spur up to 500 adoptions.

If you happen to be in the Washington, D.C. area this spring, here’s how you can get in on the cookie dough/kitten action:

  1. Go to the Crumbs & Whiskers website.
  2. Choose how long you want to spend in the Kitten Lounge—unfortunately, there is a time limit and you can’t move in. Fifteen-minute, 30-minute, and 70-minute sessions available, for $15, $22, and $35 respectively. Snacks are only available for the 30-minute and 70-minute visits.
  3. Select a time and date, add your contact info, and choose which snacks you want. Chocolate chip, vegan chocolate chip, gluten-free monster, and sugar cookie edible cookie dough flavors are available.
  4. Enjoy yourself, because the Kitten Lounge is literally the greatest thing that ever happened in the history of the world. If you’re so inclined, you can even adopt a kitten or two.
