Can you imagine a world without Chick-n-Minis? What about an early-morning drive to work without a Breakfast Crunchwrap in hand?
Exactly… unfathomable. Which is why it’s been so hard for us to understand how Wendy’s could go so long without a breakfast menu. To our delight, the wait is over.
After massive anticipation, we finally got word of Wendy’s new breakfast menu dropping, and we were pretty ecstatic. So, instead of testing out one of the new novelty items, like the Frosty-ccino or Breakfast Baconator, we decided to try ALL of them. That’s right—EVERYTHING. Take it from me, a $59 bill from Wendy’s is all too easy to rack up.
Starting with the Frost-ccinos, we were impressed with how remarkably similar they tasted to regular chocolate and vanilla frosties, but found that they had little to no actual coffee (i.e. the necessary part) in the iced coffee beverage. We also hoped that the ice would be blended in, but alas, the ice cubes were still in their full form. In conclusion, if your kids are begging for a sugary Starbucks drink, this is a much cheaper and equally satisfying alternative.
The breakfast menu offers a variety of meat, egg, and cheese combos on your choice of bun, biscuit, or croissant as entrees. We dined on Bacon, Egg, and Swiss Croissants; Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuits; and everything in between.
But one breakfast item that really rose above the rest was the Maple Bacon Chicken Croissant. The sweetness from the maple wasn’t overwhelming, but offered the most satisfying salty-sweet combo. The bacon was crisp and flavorful, and the chicken patty exceeded our expectations. Stack all that between two square-shaped croissant “buns,” and you just know it’s gonna be a good day.
Side note: After tasting all forms of breakfast sandwich breads, we concluded that, no matter which entree you order, go for the croissant bun. It’s light, flakey, and seriously enhances the flavor.
This leads us to the main morning event: the Breakfast Baconator. If you’ve ever had a regular Baconator, you probably know it is stacked high with an absurd amount of meat and cheese. As the website describes, the breakfast version isn’t too far off: “Grilled sausage, American cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, a fresh-cracked grade A egg, (deep breath) more cheese and more bacon all covered in swiss cheese sauce.”
Did you get all that? This entree is a MONSTER of a breakfast and is sure to keep you full until lunchtime (at least). We were only able to get through a few bites of this mega meal, but decided it’s perfect for all the classic breakfast sandwich-lovers out there. But also, if you have a 2-3 bowl-of-cereal kind of appetite, this is the pick for you.
If you’re looking for a lighter (or kid-sized) morning option, don’t sleep on the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Burrito, which is listed with the sides at the drive-thru window. It’s the perfect size if you’re not feeling satiated in the morning, but still has all the fillings you love (plus a tasty mild salsa for dipping).
As soon as we saw the Seasoned Potatoes on the sides menu, we knew they’d be a winner, with their golden-brown, crispy exterior and so much seasoning you could see it. These aren’t like your regular Wendy’s fries—they’re cut in thicker slices to have even more fluffy potato filling. Tbh, we kind of wish these were on the menu all day long.
If you thought potatoes were the only item you needed to order on the sides menu, think again. Don’t get me wrong, we were skeptics at first, but the Granola Bar was an unexpected hit. Loaded with dried fruit and cinnamon, the bar’s soft and chewy texture reminded us of an oatmeal cookie. In our opinion, it’s a much better option than a boring ol’ bowl of oatmeal and goes great with a hot cup of coffee.
