Little Caesars Puts Frito Pie on a Pizza

If you’ve spent enough time in the South, you’ve probably come across Frito pie. Using a bed of Fritos corn chips as its base, this decadent snack layers on chili, shredded cheese, and other taco-like toppings for a spicy, salty delight. Though its exact presentation (sometimes it’s served right in a Fritos bag) and ingredient list varies, there’s one thing every self-respecting Frito pie fan can agree on: it does not belong on a pizza.

Maybe it’s because they’re headquartered in Detroit, but Little Caesars either completely misunderstands or vehemently disagrees with that notion. Rumors suggest the chain known for its “Hot-N-ready” carryout pizza is testing a Frito pie pizza—or Frito pie pie, if you will—at select locations in Tennessee.

According to Chew Boom, their Frito Pie Pizza starts with a thin-crust cheese pizza base before layering on the chili cheese and taco sauces that serve as the Southern delicacy’s defining flavors. Additionally, a bag of chili cheese-flavored Fritos will accompany the pizza as a sort of add-on. Probably something about how chips get kind of soggy if you leave them on a pizza for too long before eating them.

That last fact may be a sign that the whole Frito pie pie isn’t a great idea, but Little Caesars soldiers on undeterred. If you want to get your grubby mitts on this pizza disaster waiting to happen, seek out a Little Caesars location in Johnson City, Piney Flats, Elizabethton, Gray, or Kingsport, Tennessee and pay $10. For now, the rest of us are safe.
