For anyone who’s intimidated by baking bread, this easy, no-knead bread is the perfect place to start. Not only is it an approachable, easy loaf, but it also doesn’t require a stand mixer with a dough hook, so a lack of equipment isn’t a boundary. Plus, it only needs five ingredients and, compared to other breads, comes together in a fraction of the time.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 teaspoons honey
- 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 3/4 cups warm water, divided
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
How to Make It
Step 1
Combine honey, yeast, and 1/2 cup of the water in a small bowl or measuring cup, and stir lightly. Let stand 5 minutes.
Step 2
Reserve 1 1/2 tablespoons of the flour for later. Place remaining flour in a large bowl; add salt, and whisk to combine and form a well in the center. Add yeast mixture and remaining 1 1/4 cups water into well, and stir until combined. Remove dough from sides of bowl, and form a ball in bottom center of bowl (dough will be very sticky and wet). Sprinkle top with reserved flour. Cover bowl with plastic wrap, and place in a warm area, free from cool drafts. Let rise for 2 hours.
Step 3
Preheat oven to 425°F. Remove half of the dough, and place in a loaf shape on a lightly greased baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough, and place 2 to 3 inches apart on the same prepared baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven until golden and toasted and when a hollow sound is heard when being tapped, 22 to 25 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
