Deliveroo has announced it will be launching a special discount for its customers in September as the Government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme comes to its end. Throughout August, the scheme has provided more than 64 million meals to diners across the country. So what exactly is the new Deliveroo’s Eat In to Help Out discount and how can you get it?
What is the Eat Out to Help Out scheme?
The Eat Out to Help Out promotion scheme launched by the Government is designed to help boost the hospitality industry by providing customers in restaurants, pubs and cafes a 50 percent discount on their meal.
This discount is available up to a maximum of £10 per head and runs from August 3 to 31.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said the scheme was supporting almost two million jobs.
The UK-wide promotion is valid all day on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Food and drink appear on the menu at full price, but the restaurant will take the money off the bill before claiming it back from the Government.
The discount only applies to food and soft drinks consumed on the premises and can be used in combination with any other promotions and discounts offered by the venue.
The promotional discount does not apply to takeaways or alcoholic beverages.
According to Treasury figures, the scheme was used by diners more than 64 million times in the first three weeks.
The number of customers at UK restaurants between Monday to Wednesday last week was 61 percent higher than last year, according to restaurant booking website OpenTable.
On the popularity of the scheme, Mr Sunak said: “Today’s figures continue to show that Brits are backing hospitality – with more than 64 million meals discounted so far, that’s equivalent to nearly every person in the country dining out to protect jobs.
“This scheme has reminded us how much we love to dine out, and in doing so, how this is helping to protect the jobs of nearly two million people who work in hospitality.”

He said: “Deliveroo is passionate about supporting local restaurants, who are central to our business and to so many high streets across the UK.
“Our restaurant partners play a vital role in our economy, just as they do people’s everyday lives, bringing people the food they love.
“We know they have been hit hard recently, and we hope Our Eat IN to Help Out scheme can play a part in helping their businesses through this difficult period.”
How can you get the Eat in to Help Out discount?
In total, around 16,000 restaurants across the country will be involved in the scheme.
National chains will not be included in the deal unless they opt to pick up the cost of this discount themselves.
Deliveroo has said customers will be given a code to use when a discount can be used which they can use before completing their order using the Deliveroo app.
