The hack comes has internet users testing avocado storage hacks to discover the best way to prevent the fruit from going brown.

In fact, one claims to have come up with a way to keep them fresh for up to six months.

This method involves using the freezer and has been described as “great” and useful for smoothies. Chopped avocados can be stored in a plastic sealed bag in the fridge for up to six months.

One even suggested storing mashed avocado in ice cube trays for whenever you fancy some avo toast.

Methods to stop avocados from going brown

Use lemon or lime

Squeezing lemon or lime juice onto the exposed green flesh of the avocado. The acidity is said to prevent browning.

Olive oil

Brushing olive oil over the avocado flesh forms a barrier between it and the air, staving off browning.

Use a plastic container

Pop the avocado in an air-tight container, and then place it in the fridge to help keep the avocado fresh.

A combination of the above hacks can help keep the fruit fresh. However, it will only stay fresh for three to four days maximum. The best thing to do is eat your avocado the same day you cut it.
